***A top seller in Dystopian and Post-Apocalyptic***

Bestselling author Chris Pike returns with another adrenalized, electrifying story about survival in the wildly-popular EMP Survivor Series.

Amanda Hardy and Chris Chandler have finally made a fateful, gut-wrenching decision to leave the Double H Ranch where they had taken sanctuary after the EMP.

Their dangerous journey to Austin will put them in the crosshairs of desperate survivors who resort to despicable trickery, not only to take their belongings, but also their lives. Along the way, Chandler learns that Amanda hasn’t been completely truthful about her past—a past filled with unresolved loss and long-held secrets, leading to a future where the unknown has deadly consequences.

Just when they think they are safe, they find out the danger has only just begun.

“Chris Pike draws the reader into the story with richly textured prose and vivid descriptions, using the right mixture of unexpected twists and turns, raising the question If it happened to me, could I survive?”

Unknown World A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Survival Fiction Series The EMP Survivor Series Book 3 eBook Chris Pike

The problem with reading a LOT of post-apocalypse stories is that sooner or later you've read them all. :) I read the first book in this series some time ago and finished it before the second and third books were published. I thought it was pretty good, but I put it away and forgot it. Recently I found the later books offered, and when I browsed my library to see if I had them already, I found the first book. So I read it again, liked it and bought both sequels. Not at all disappointed! The writing is good; the characters are well-defined; the action is well-thought out --that is to say real and flows at a good pace without happiness. I also like the lack of f-bombs, the presence of warmth and affection without graphic sex, and the theme of faith, family, and firearms. (The author clearly knows his firearms, too, but doesn't bore the reader with interminable minutiae about them.) I intend to look for the next book from which the bonus teaser in this book is taken.

Unknown World A Post Apocalyptic/Dystopian Survival Fiction Series The EMP Survivor Series Book 3 eBook Chris Pike Reviews

Book number three of three book post apocalyptic series. I read the nicely formatted and printed POD (print on demand) version in trade paperback. The author has plans to publish the 4th book in the series this year and the 5th book in 2018. All of the books so far are a quick read since they are around 220 pages long, in fact the author states that her book length target is around 200 pages to keep things moving along.

For the second time that I have noticed, the author has credited an editor person, a formatter person, and a cover art person for this self published book. Interesting, I liked the attributions.

An unexplained EMP happens to the USA in the southern region along the Gulf Coast. The book does not tell what happens to the rest of the USA. As with all EMP books, the damage is extreme, affecting all automobiles, computers, electrical grids, etc, etc, etc. And airplanes.

This book is about two new protagonists returning home to the north Austin area several months after the EMP. Texas has suddenly become a very dangerous area to travel in.

I enjoyed the book very much, especially since it is set in Texas where I live and in Louisiana. However, I disagree with the author that an EMP over the USA will kill car computers. Regular computers wired to the grid, yes. But car computers live in the horrible environment of automobiles with under-voltage, over-voltage, current spikes, etc, etc, etc. Cars will probably survive the EMP but your electrical grid, not.
Two of author Chris Pike's characters split off on their own in this post apocalypse thriller. They make their way from East Texas to the Austin area. Pike makes sure that their travel through a post apocalypse hell world has events to endanger them and entertain us, the readers. Their stop at an isolated inn had enough creepy stuff to last me a good long while.
His characters are believable and act in realistic ways, not crazy super human stuff. A slo-mo romance builds as the book progresses, which gives the story extra interest.
This makes the third book in his series with a common event and intertwined characters. I look forward to his next volume, with again some minor characters expanded into a full story. Chris Pike, keep it up.
I'm a huge post-apocalyptic fiction fan and have read hundreds of subgenre books ranging from solar and nuclear EMP, biological weapons, economic collapse, zombies, etc. Each type has a limited number of storylines that tend to get played out and I was concerned that this would be just another post-EMP survival series. However, I've been pleasantly surprised with this book and have enjoyed each book in this series. While the second and third (this one) books have diverged from the initial narrative a little further each time, they remain true to the story and bring a good mix of realism, suspense, and action. Other authors in this genre often seem to create side-plots or spin-offs in order to stretch a good narrative as long as possible and get every penny possible out of their original idea. I don't blame them but there are several series in this genre that seem to never end and don't really bring any fresh ideas with each new book. This series is different because the characters are each developed in a manner that makes you connect with them and therefore a spin-off using a character or characters from prior books let's you immediately jump into a new plot without having to learn and become acquainted with new characters. Additionally, based on the post script of this third book it is evident that the author is humble and although he isn't a full-time author he doesn't cut corners and dedicates himself to honing his craft as well as taking the time to research the people, places, and events in his stories. I've always wondered how and why fiction authors pick the names and personalities for their characters and the postscript in this book explained it. This is a fantastic book and series that you should definitely add to your library.
I like the authors style, but I was a bit disappointed with the direction the story has gone. While I like Chandler and surrounding characters well enough, I would have preferred it to have stayed centered around the original characters from the first two books.

I also have a problem when unrealistic things happen to make things easier for the writer, like having characters in the middle of a post apocalyptic scenario not bother to go armed because they can't be bothered retrieving their weapon which is just a few feet away, even after all of the horrific experiences they've recently had, etc
This third book in the series takes a brief departure from a part of the storyline to better focus on two characters, Amanda and Chandler, both just trying to find their way home in a world radically different than the one they had known all their lives. There's action Bruce Willis would be proud of, gun-slinging that would make John Wayne break into a wistful smile, and a foray into the human heart which explores both its sinister and its loving nature. Definitely read books one and two in the EMP Survivor series to get you this far, and read this third installment to carry you forward.
The problem with reading a LOT of post-apocalypse stories is that sooner or later you've read them all. ) I read the first book in this series some time ago and finished it before the second and third books were published.
